The Foundation of the EnergyMD Platform

Understanding VSEL Treatment

VSEL therapy is a personalized regenerative medicine approach to longevity and wellness by activating stem cells that are one day old and can become any type of cell in the body. By utilizing a proprietary activation process and targeted photobiomodulation, we can turn back the clock on aging and treat most medical conditions.

Understanding the Cells

What Are VSELs?

VSEL stands for Very Small Embryonic-Like Stem Cell. VSELs are naturally occurring regenerative cell populations found within the human body. Unlike treatments that rely on donated tissue or externally sourced cells, the EnergyMD process begins with the patient’s own blood.

The EnergyMD model is built around identifying and preparing stem cells found within the plasma. These cells then undergo a specialized activation process before being returned to the patient.

Treatment recommendations are individualized according to the patient’s health history, clinical evaluation, treatment goals, and the tissues or organ systems being addressed.

VSELs Are Not Embryonic Cells

No embryonic tissue is used in the EnergyMD process. The treatment utilizes dormant stem cells obtained from the patient’s own blood.

The EnergyMD Foundation

Three Coordinated Pillars

VSEL treatment is part of a broader platform that combines stem cell therapy, targeted light therapy, and optimization of the biologic environment.

Pillar 1 of 3: VSEL Stem Cell Therapy

Dormant stem cells and plasma are obtained from the patient’s blood, processed, activated, and prepared for intravenous or localized administration based on the individualized treatment plan.

Pillar 2 of 3: Targeted Laser Photobiomodulation

Laser technology is incorporated into both the activation process and the patient’s treatment to support cellular energy, mitochondrial function, biologic communication, and the selected treatment areas.

Pillar 3 of 3: Cellular Optimization Protocols

Individualized protocols may be used before and after treatment to support cellular health, mitochondrial function, neurologic performance, recovery capacity, and the regenerative environment.

The EnergyMD Activation Process

From Blood Collection to Targeted Treatment

Every treatment begins with the patient. The precise protocol varies, but the EnergyMD process generally follows seven coordinated stages.

Step 1 of 7: Blood Collection

A blood sample is collected so the plasma and dormant stem cells used during treatment can be obtained from the patient.

Step 2 of 7: Plasma Isolation

The blood is processed through centrifugation to separate platelet-rich plasma and other biologically active plasma fractions.

Step 3 of 7: Cold-Shock Activation

The isolated plasma undergoes a specialized cold-shock preparation step as part of EnergyMD’s activation protocol.

Step 4 of 7: Laser Activation

Following cold-shock preparation, the plasma is exposed to targeted laser energy as an additional phase of the activation process.

Step 5 of 7: Frequency-Specific Preparation

The treatment framework incorporates frequencies selected according to the patient’s treatment goals and the tissues or organ systems being addressed.

Step 6 of 7: Reinfusion or Localized Injection

The prepared plasma and activated stem cells are returned to the patient through intravenous infusion, targeted injection, or a combination approach.

Step 7 of 7: Targeted Photobiomodulation

After administration, targeted laser photobiomodulation is applied to the selected treatment areas to support cellular energy and biologic communication.

Individualized Delivery

How Treatment May Be Administered

The method of administration depends on the treatment program, clinical assessment, and the patient’s individual goals.

Systemic programs may primarily use intravenous delivery, while localized programs may incorporate targeted injections. Some treatment plans may use both approaches.

Intravenous Infusion

May be incorporated into systemic programs involving longevity, cardiovascular wellness, neurocognitive health, immune support, gastrointestinal health, or hormonal optimization.

Localized Injection

May be used when treatment is directed toward a particular area, such as a joint, the scalp, or other localized tissues.

Combination Treatment

Some individualized programs may combine systemic and localized approaches when the provider determines that both are appropriate.

The Regenerative Timeline

Regeneration Is Viewed as a Process

EnergyMD describes treatment as the beginning of a longer period of cellular response, adaptation, and optimization rather than as a single isolated event.

Days 1–3

Differentiation Phase

This is described as the earliest phase of cellular response and biologic signaling following treatment. Individual experiences during this period vary.

Weeks 1–3

Maturation Phase

Cellular activity and communication are described as continuing to develop while the treated tissues and systems adapt.

Months 1–3

Replication & Regeneration

EnergyMD considers this an important regenerative window, which is one reason optimization protocols may continue for 60 to 90 days.

Months 3–12

Adaptation & Optimization

Biologic adaptation may continue beyond the first three months. The timing and nature of any changes differ among patients.

Some patients report noticing changes sooner, while others experience gradual changes over weeks or months. Treatment response, duration, and outcomes vary by patient.

Treatment Longevity

Dr. Dan Margolin and Ian Mitchell discuss how EnergyMD views the longevity of VSEL treatment, including cellular regeneration, continued adaptation, and individualized response over time.

Your Patient Journey

What to Expect

Every treatment plan is individualized, but the patient experience generally includes evaluation, education, treatment planning, and follow-up guidance.

Personal Consultation

Discuss your concerns, health history, priorities, and treatment goals with the EnergyMD team.

Clinical Evaluation

The provider reviews relevant medical information and determines whether a treatment may be appropriate.

Individualized Planning

Administration method, treatment areas, optimization strategies, and follow-up recommendations are tailored to the patient.

Ongoing Guidance

Patients receive instructions regarding preparation, recovery, physical activity, optimization protocols, and follow-up care.

Common Questions

VSEL Treatment FAQ

These general answers do not replace an individualized consultation with a qualified healthcare provider.

Are VSELs the same as embryonic stem cells?

No. EnergyMD describes VSELs as naturally occurring dormant stem cells obtained from the patient’s own blood. No embryonic tissue is used.

How long does a treatment visit take?

The handbook indicates that most visits take approximately two to four hours, depending on the treatment program and individualized protocol.

Is the procedure painful?

Most patients are reported to tolerate treatment well. Comfort measures may be used when appropriate, and the degree of discomfort depends on the treatment area and individual sensitivity.

How soon might I notice a change?

Some patients report changes within days, while others notice gradual changes over weeks or months. Individual responses differ, and no specific outcome or timeline can be guaranteed.

Can I exercise after treatment?

Patients are commonly advised to avoid strenuous exercise for approximately 72 hours unless their provider gives different instructions.

Can I continue taking my medications?

Continue taking prescribed medications unless the prescribing physician specifically instructs you otherwise. Do not stop or adjust medication without medical supervision.

Will I need more than one treatment?

Some patients pursue a single treatment, while others may participate in a series. The number and timing of treatments depend on the program, response, goals, and provider recommendations.

Is VSEL treatment appropriate for everyone?

No treatment is appropriate for every patient. A consultation and medical evaluation are required to determine candidacy, discuss risks, and establish an individualized plan.

Are results guaranteed?

No. Every patient responds differently. Age, health history, medical conditions, lifestyle, treatment type, and adherence to recommendations can all affect outcomes.
